He was predeceased by: his parents, Mildred Freese Fryar and Albert Thomas Fryar; and his sisters, Frances Fryar Hamilton and Marcella Fryar Pela. He is survived by: his wife Bette Stephens Fryar; his children, Elizabeth "Beth" Fryar Reeves (Bobby), John Madison "Matt" Fryar III and Robert Thomas "Bob" Fryar (Carolyn); his grandchildren, Courtney Reeves Schilling (Greg), Leanne Reeves Gotcher (West), Bill Fryar (Casey), Kathryn Reeves Bailey (Jimmy), Ben Fryar (Caitlyn), Beau Fryar (Hannah), Dylan Fryar, Dalton Fryar (Lauren) and Devin Fryar (Meghan); and his great grandchildren, Ellie Schilling, Grace Schilling, Olivia Gotcher, James Bailey, William Fryar, Frances Schilling, Pearson Gotcher, Jr., Reeves Bailey, Thomas Fryar, Robert Gotcher, Grace Ann Fryar, Mary Frances Fryar, Jack Bailey, Alden Fryar, Shep Fryar and Whit Fryar.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 1st 2026 at 2:00 PM at the St. Martin's Episcopal Church (717 Sage Rd, Houston, TX 77056).
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor John's memory are encouraged to make a donation to St. Martin's Episcopal Church or to the charity of their choice.
