He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Hammel and Rozella Hammel (Kissel); and his siblings, George Hammel, Rozella Hardy, Evelyn Jarboe and Ronald Hammel.
He is survived by: his children, Karen Ramsey (David) of Rochester and Steven Hammel (Colleen) of Champaign; his grandchildren, Megan Ramsey of Yukon, OK, Kyle Hammel of Champaign, Lynnette Robertson (Ryan) of Maroa and Kristin Hammel of Chicago; and his brother Richard (Carol) of Champaign.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, September 4th 2025 at 4:30 PM at the Holy Cross Parish Center (405 W Clark St, Champaign, IL 61820). Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 5th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Cross Catholic Church (405 W Clark St, Champaign, IL 61820).
