With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Rosalie Jane Smothers of Shelbyville, Indiana, who passed away on May 19, 2025 at the age of 74. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Richard Hersley and Elizabeth Hersley (Glaub); her husband James "Alvin" Smothers; her daughter Melissa Martin; and her siblings, William Hersley, Richard Hersley Jr. and Alice White.
She is survived by: her children, Carolyn Johnson of Lawrenceburg, Gary Helvey Jr. (Teresa) of Shelbyville, Brenda Martin (Jimmy Nicholson) of Shelbyville, Kimmy Jo Thompson (Scott) of Shelbyville, Jason Helvey (Diane Crafton) of Shelbyville, Kathy Caballero (Micael) of Shelbyville and Ashley Smothers (Lexi) of Terre Haute; and her siblings, Rebecka Lunsford of Osgood, Carolyn Jacobs of Versailles and Thomas Hersley of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23rd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Freeman Family Funeral Homes (819 S Harrison St, Shelbyville, IN 46176). A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23rd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
