She was predeceased by: her parents, Margit Mathison and Magnus Mathison of Joseph's Hospital; her former husband John "Dave" David Thurman; her brother Johan Mathison; and her sister-in-law Betty Mathison.
She is survived by: her husband Chlorn Petersen; her brothers, Dennis Mathison (Elaine) and Harvey Mathison; her children, Gregg Thurman (Jennifer), Brad Thurman and Alissa Thurman (Wayne Alsworth); her grandchildren, Kirsten, Connor and Logan Thurman; and her stepsons, Mark and Merlin Petersen. She is also survived by great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In keeping with her kind, loving nature, and passion for helping others, Karen was an organ donor and gave the gift of life through her donation.
